Something About Company
Our culture is built on constantly asking if we could do better, as success means never resting on our laurels. We are immensely proud of our academy and what has been achieved for our young people. But it is in our DNA to always think we could do more and push the boundaries further. To be one step ahead in education, we must innovate better, smarter and faster.
Our 2020 mission is to be rated outstanding and to consistently offer the best education for the young people of Hucknall. On the road to 2020, we have adopted four cornerstones to our thinking – attainment, performance of our students, performance of our leadership, and inspiration.
So on the road to 2020: the four cornerstones of the Holgate Academy are
To improve attainment for students by ensuring that all students achieve better than expected progress. To consistently add value and to do it without excessive intervention.
Performance of our students
To ensure that all students experience high quality teaching characterised by high expectations that engages, challenges and supports them in their learning.
Performance of our leadership
To develop capacity in leadership at all levels to sustain improvement, focusing on strong and supportive teams, robust quality assurance and tracking systems.
To recruit and retain pupils through an innovative science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) based curriculum alongside a positive, happy learning environment.
The hunger is there to make sure that the next five years are even better than the last two years.
We break this down into ‘the what’, ‘the how’ and ‘the why’:
Attainment (The What)
If we are to be seen as an outstanding school, then we need to match those words with deeds that see our pupils consistently performing higher than their peers elsewhere, and pupils who are disadvantaged when they join us will narrow the gap and exceed their expectations. Pupils will be able to achieve in academic and extracurricular activities. In 2020 when we look back over the last seven years we want to see The Holgate Academy have a strong, continuous track record of improvements in outcomes.
In short it means our pupils live up to the high aspirations that we have for them.
Performance (The How)
We want our pupils to have the best prepared and most focussed team of teachers that is possible. A team that has done everything conceivable to allow our pupils to achieve their maximum potential. If we do that we will achieve at the highest level. We want The Holgate Academy to be at the cutting edge of research and innovation – a reference point for excellence in teaching. We will have the best systems in place that track performance. The curriculum we offer will be cutting edge – combining high quality traditional qualifications alongside vocational opportunities.
Inspiration (The Why)
Our ultimate purpose is very simple – to do everything that we can to make the pupils in our academy leave us ready to take their place in an increasingly complicated and competitive world. Education can be a force for good in so many ways from health to the environment and the economy. Our pupils will understand their responsibilities to the world through the view of our British values. And our STEAM based curriculum will enable our pupils to compete globally.
By 2020 we want The Holgate Academy to be recognised as a beacon of educational excellence after seven years of sustained success. And how we have done it matters just as much as what we have done.
